Dyson has done it again either this hairdryer-straightener hybrid.

A hair straightener tool&mdash;but without hot plates. Read that again. Yes, no hot plates. Not ceramic. Not tourmaline. Just good old air. Dyson is known for revolutionizing the tech behind vacuum cleaners in the 90s and changing the hair dryer game in the 2010s and now has done it again in 2024. With the philosophy of the brand&rsquo;s beauty arm revolving around the balance of form, function, and ultimate ease of use, comes the Dyson Airstrait. Here&rsquo;s what we love about this product that&rsquo;s 6 years and hundreds of engineers&rsquo; work in the making. 
<h4 style="text-align: center;">The least heat damage with great results now and in the long run</h4>

As we said, it uses no hot plates but instead a powerful airflow. It employs a similar motor to the supersonic, and just like it&rsquo;s predecessor it&rsquo;s made to prevent overheating and thus damage. Despite that, it&rsquo;s very capable of creating a sleek finish with three heat and air settings, and even a wet and dry mode.

<h4 style="text-align: center;">It&rsquo;s tested on all hair types</h4>

A half-day tour around the Dyson labs enlightened us a lot about the process behind making their tools&mdash;one of them being testing on as much hair types as possible. WHen they say all hair types, they walk the talk. We got to take a peek at the lab that tests for consistency in results, with Design and Development Manager Vijeta showing us around. When asked about other specifics though like performance with other products or tools, we find out that there&rsquo;s even a separate testing protocol and lab made for that too.&nbsp;

<h4 style="text-align: center;">It&rsquo;s a high-tech tool that&rsquo;s made to be easy&nbsp;</h4>

While at first glance it appears complicated, it&rsquo;s actually made to make your hair styling experience easier. The most remarkable part of its tech is the removable diffuser&mdash;it specifically redirects the hot airflow away from the neck and shoulders for optimum comfort during use. Apart from that, it has a self-cleaning function, and even the smallest detail like use of color to direct to points of interest has a purpose that lends to its functionality.

<h4 style="text-align: center;">It&rsquo;s a hair dryer and hair straightener in one&nbsp;</h4>

The secret, they find, is that hair texture and shape is actually easier to &ldquo;reset&rdquo; when wet, but it&rsquo;s also the time it&rsquo;s most fragile. Thus, the traditional method for straightening is blowdrying and then a hot iron, but that doubles time and heat damage. The airstrait combines both steps and reduces damage with powerful airflow&mdash;we find out that it&rsquo;s also specifically angled diagonally in a &ldquo;V&rdquo; shape that sandwiches your hair between the arms. Additionally, the engingeers shared that in previous prototypes they&rsquo;ve attempted a version that blows the air horizontally straight into the hair, which was great for drying but not improving texture; meanwhile airflow directed down would sleek the hair but not dry efficiently. So what they&rsquo;ve come up with in the end is the perfect combination of drying power and ability to smoothen hair.
