The cosmetics giant commemorates 75 years of iconic success in an industry they helped define.

It&rsquo;s challenging to go around any beauty department store without noticing the sleek and welcoming counters of Est&eacute;e Lauder in its recognizable navy and gold. The past seven decades saw the brand morph into the giant it is known for today, reinstating its vitality in the lives of many as it continues to breathe life into the beauty industry. Today, the brand celebrates its 75th year and doing so by honoring the woman behind it all, its namesake, Mrs. Est&eacute;e Lauder herself.&nbsp;

1. The early days
Born Josephine Esther Mentzer, the young Est&eacute;e was already swayed by the merits of beauty. In her high school years, she was exposed to the making of skin creams through her uncle, who practiced this. This then prompted the start of a lifelong dedication to cosmetics and she eventually excelled in preparing the skin creams herself.

2. Starting the company
Upon getting married, the now Mrs. Lauder started selling her products to beauty salons by demonstrating skin care and makeup to the salon customers as they were being pampered. By 1946, the Est&eacute;e Lauder brand was established and within a year, its first major customer, Saks Fifth Avenue, purchased $800 worth of products.

3. Building her reputation
Lauder proved herself to be a gifted entrepreneur and innovator. During her time, fragrances were typically given to women by their husbands as presents but Lauder saw the need for one that women can avail for themselves, thus the launch of the Youth-Dew bath oil, for a more convenient splash of fragrance. Lauder also designed the now-standardized High-Touch service, believing that customers would appreciate a product more upon feeling it on their skin.

4. Est&eacute;e Lauder, today
Today, Est&eacute;e Lauder is a household name with numerous brands under its belt; from Jo Malone London to MAC Cosmetics to Clinique. But the desire to be present in women&rsquo;s dressers remains and the brand continues to improve and span out its catalog. For example, fans of the brand swear by its beloved youth elixir, the Advanced Night Repair serum, a formula which they&rsquo;ve continued to develop through numerous versions.

Lauder is lauded as a woman who knows exactly what women want. To this day, she is honored posthumously through her untouchable legacy. Her creativity, convictions, and passion flow within the bottles and tins of her products. The Est&eacute;e Lauder legacy continues to beam in the industry it helped define. Its rich history and strong identity will manage to transcend the test of time.&nbsp;
