ZENITH is best known for producing the first-ever automatic integrated chronograph calibre back in 1969. The seminal El Primero movement enabled the chronograph to measure up to 1/10th of a second, exceeding the standards prevalent at the time. Perhaps less known was its subaqueous accomplishment. The DEFY A3648 was a superb dive watch claiming water resistance of 60 ATM, a remarkable feat in 1969.

In the mid-1970s when El Primero was at risk of being lost to the quartz crisis, but for the defiant employee, Charles Vermot, who decided to take it upon himself to preserve all the requisite apparatus to make the movement, thereby keeping the legacy of the brand alive. The spirit of defiance is immanent in the brand. Over the years, DEFY has benefited from El Primero movements and evolved into a panoply of exceptional watches. Now it is joined by two new opposing styles thoughtfully crafted to meet the demands of discerning go-getters.
With the new releases in the shape of the DEFY Skyline Chronograph and DEFY Extreme Diver, ZENITH seeks to advance the sportiness of the sartorial DEFY Skyline and the capability of the extraordinary DEFY Extreme subsets.

Offered in three dial options of metallic black, blue and silver, the chronograph astir with geometric influence deftly incorporated into the 42mm steel case, whose octagonal case is refined to evoke past DEFY models while remaining resolutely modern. The bodacious dial is attended by a retinue of signature stars, overlapping sub dials, a matching date window, faceted hour markers and a set of hands.
Mirroring the dodecagonal bezel, the faceted flange ring is imprinted with the 1/10th of a second scale. The chronograph benefits from the high-frequency El Primero 3600 automatic movement, capable of measuring up to 1/10th of a second. Its accouterments, such as the starred oscillating weight providing 60 hours of power reserve, are visible through the transparent caseback. To ensure no time is wasted on fiddling with tools, the DEFY Skyline Chronograph is fitted with an integrated quick strap-change mechanism, promising an effortless experience when swapping between the three-link steel bracelet and the supplied star-spangled rubber strap with steel folding buckle. The star-emblemed screw-down crown provides water resistance of 100 metres.

ZENITH expands its dive watch line-up with the silvery-white dialed DEFY Extreme Diver in sunburst finish. The sine qua non for the new dive watch is its 600-metre water resistance, a nod to the iconic DEFY A3648. Encased in 42.5mm titanium, the metal is chosen for its superior weight-to-strength ratio and corrosion resistance. Indeed, it satisfies the ISO 6245, ISO 764 and ISO 1413 requirements for diving, paramagnetism and shock resistance respectively. It is equipped with a helium escape valve for saturated dives, while a black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel features grooved edges for enhanced grip.
This sporty number is tinctured with bright orange, with additional X1 grade Super LumiNova in blue, green and yellow coating the engraved bezel, hands and hour markers for clear differentiation. At its heart is the El Primero 3620-SC automatic high frequency movement pushing 60 hours of power reserve, revealed through a transparent caseback. The original three-link titanium bracelet is complemented with a Cordura-effect black FKM rubber strap and an extra-long strap made from recycled fishing nets, intended to be worn over the wetsuit.
