The <a href="https://www.lofficiel.com/save-the-date/defile-kenzo-automne-hiver-2024-images-celebrites-front-row" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kenzo Fall/Winter 2024</a> collection once again explores intercultural exchanges. As custodian of the house built by <a href="https://www.lofficiel.com/fashion/kenzo-takada-crateur-de-mode-hritage-influence-japonaise" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kenzo Takada</a> &mdash; another Japanese designer who has made a name for himself in the French capital &mdash; <a href="https://www.lofficiel.com/fashion-week/kenzo-defile-de-mode-homme-printemps-ete-2024-collection-photo-look" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nigo</a> sees the introduction of non-Western influences into Parisian fashion as a key element of his practice. For this collection, he draws inspiration from George Lucas and Akira Kurosawa's samurai films for a very personal reinterpretation of the Star Wars universe.
We find details and silhouettes rooted in Japanese tradition but imbued with associations linked to science fiction: a kimono coat inspired by the lines of a warrior's cape, a weave reminiscent of the wood print of a jacket of a Japanese firefighter, or a pleated dress draped like the cape of an oute space heroine. A miniature stitch pattern inspired by the Edo Komon of 15th century kimonos manifests itself again as a constellation of stars in prints and embroidery. Nods to Western utilitarian and military wardrobes materialize in flight jackets, cargo suits, and sheepskin jackets, which carry within them the codes of another universe. An intergalactic parade, between tradition and modernity.
