Philips' journey into makeup artistry is as unconventional. Hailing from Antwerp, Belgium, he initially pursued graphic design before venturing into fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. A serendipitous experience backstage at Paris Fashion Week ignited his passion for makeup, leading to collaborations with renowned designers and photographers, including Raf Simons and Willy Vanderperre. In 2014, Philips brought his visionary talent to Dior Beauty, where he continues to push the boundaries of beauty.
For Dior Beauty's Spring Look 2025, Philips drew inspiration from the luminous quality of pastels and the transformative power of a radiant glow. He envisioned a makeup collection that celebrates luminosity, utilizing soft dreamy shades complemented by bold, graphic elements. Philips believes in making statement makeup feel approachable, encouraging beauty lovers to start small&mdash;perhaps a subtle flick of liner&mdash;before embracing bolder artistic touches. To start, could you share the creative process and inspiration behind these playful looks for Dior Beauty's Spring season?
For the Dior Spring Look 2025 beauty story, I really wanted to emphasize the power of glow and pastels, which are key ingredients in the spring makeup collection. For makeup, I applied graphic eyeliners and created little face applications in combination with the softness of pastels and luminous skin. Olivier Schawalder, the hairstylist, was able to create the most beautiful pastel hair to complete and frame the looks.&nbsp;
What current makeup trends did you try to incorporate in this campaign?
The power of glow and the desire for playfulness and creativity. Beautiful nude shades (even de soft blue reads almost like a nude) that all blend into each other. And next to that pushing the strength of an impactful eyeliner, by playing and twisting the traditional shapes.&nbsp;&nbsp;
What are the defining characteristics of the looks you created, and how do they embody your vision for spring?
Priority is glowing and radiant skin emphasized with the pastel shades that come in warm or cool tones. In contrast with that, I added graphic eyeliners and face applications. The Spring look is all about celebrating glow and luminosity and adding personality and uniqueness with graphic touches around the eyes or on the face.

This campaign is very youthful and playful. What made you decide to go in this direction with the makeup and overall beauty look?
This shoot has been approached as an editorial shoot and not as a campaign, so there's no business or marketing strategy behind it. This gives the team at the shoot more playtime and the result becomes more playful.&nbsp;
The looks incorporate color and graphic lines. Why did you decide to mix these two beauty elements together?
What makes a look interesting is something disturbing, a little detail that's a bit different, hence the eyeliner shapes, very black and graphic, in combination or contrast with the beautiful, delicate pastels.&nbsp;
How do these makeup looks perfectly showcase Dior Beauty's latest collection?
These looks show one of many ways to express what you can do with the Spring Collection. The approach and the narrative of this shoot were young, and dynamic with a touch of manga.&nbsp;
What do you think are the key products from Dior Beauty's Spring collection that people should invest in?
Our lip products are almost essential, the Dior Addict Lip Glow and the Dior Addict Lip Maximizers are a must-have, and not only for this spring, you can keep using them all year long. And if you want to pamper yourself with something special that you can use for years to come, it's the Dior Forever Couture Luminizer Lilacmania, the shade adds a touch of unique luminosity to your highlights, and if you want a sheer touch of sparklines on top of your eyeshadow.&nbsp;
How can these looks inspire everyday makeup? What's your advice to those scared to try more "bold" makeup looks?
It's all about proportions. The skin, glow, and pastels are easy, they aren't overwhelming and easy to apply. And for the rest, be sure to take it easy; step by step. Start with a small eyeliner idea, and if you feel it, you can go bolder. And for the face applications, the same. I had some stars and butterflies made, but you can easily get a beautiful result by gluing some star-shaped sequins.&nbsp;
How has beauty and makeup evolved through the years in your opinion? What were the significant changes in your approach to makeup?
Beauty and makeup have become more democratic, more available, more inclusive, and diverse. For me and our teams, this means that we have to be more alert, more dynamic and extremely desirable. Our products and creations need to be seductive, they need to have fair claims, and we have to keep up with the high standards that are expected from a Couture House.&nbsp;
How do you think makeup changes a person's vibe or aura and enhances their overall "fashion look"?
Makeup is a powerful tool, it can do wonders for your confidence. And by being confident, you project yourself differently than when you're insecure. When you own your look, you are in charge of yourself.
