5 Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2022 Garments To Wear at the Office
Knitted sweaters, mini skirts, and appliqué dresses are just some of the pieces that you should wear for your return to work behind the desk.
Dolly Parton already said it in the 80s when she sang, “Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a living.” The office: hated by many, loved by others. And although its existence is controversial, we cannot deny its influence on the female wardrobe when women entered the workforce. It gave us eternal and universal garments that continue to work as much, or better, than when they first appeared: pants, sweaters, shirts, blazers, suits, and pipe dresses, pieces that empowered women to go out into the world and conquer it.
Taking as a starting point these absolute archetypes of everyday clothing, Miuccia Prada does an exercise in reflection on what the attire means for the office today (now that many women are leaving teleworking), so she proposes to use what exists to create something new: much more sensual and daring for Spring/Summer 2022.
The appointment was inside the Palais d'Iena, where a meandering walkway made by Amo and the audience balanced on Eames office chairs, transformed the space into a workplace. The works of the artist Meriem Bennani marked the physical and virtual spaces of the show, exploring the intimate relationship of women and fashion through the camera. During the show, Bennani controlled the live broadcast with a series of cinematic artistic interventions starring his mother. Blurring, once again, the lines between the virtual and the real.
After watching the show, L'Officiel selects the garments that cannot be missing from your wardrobe.
Knitted Sweaters
The warmth of knitting, which we used to automatically associate with our grandmothers, has elevated its status in recent seasons as a versatile material capable of evoking sensuality. Miuccia Prada knows that it is a staple to attend any meeting, but now it cuts or lengthens its proportions, without sacrificing the credibility of its character by combining it over dress shirts.
Mini Skirts
Since its inception, those six inches less became liberating (or a curse for many women — it all depends on the lens through which you look at it). The designer embraces it in her new take on the work uniform by wearing it to the hips with raw hems. For this new return, the loose threads remind us that a new era, more spontaneous and less rigid, awaits us.
Midi Skirts
Now, if the mini skirt is not your thing, Miu Miu also proposes longer variations below the knee in different materials: gabardine fabric, knitted fabric, or leather. For Miuccia Prada, the skirt can be worn tight to the body to reveal it or pleated to add volume. The options exist and, in this collection, they do it even further.
Appliqué Dresses
We know that neutral tones are always a hit in moments of indecision. But appliqués and embroidery (the hallmark of any Miu Miu garment) will also be a part of the new reality. Although they are usually used as decorations for evening clothes, now the designer fuses them with the dress codes of the day to day, taking their aesthetic meaning to a more current context, where more is simply more.
Trench Coats
A classic trench coat is a must for any woman who must travel in a big city: perfect for unforeseen weather changes, lengthening the figure, and giving a sophisticated touch to a simple look (it is no wonder that French women do not go out without it). For the spring season, the brand proposes a simple straight coat, without unnecessary ornaments or buttons. In this case, why fix what just works fine?
With this collection, Miuccia Prada reveals to us, once again, her reflective character. Their garments respond to a difficult moment in the history of work for women: many of them were forced to leave their jobs due to the global health crisis. However, Miu Miu gives us clothes that make us want to go out into the world (and conquer it again).
