The Vaporwave Dimension According to JW Anderson
Jonathan Anderson at London Fashion Week takes us to a kaledoscopic arcade where his creativity meets vaporwave aesthetics for the Spring Summer 2023 women's collection.
The curtain rises at London Fashion Week for JW Anderson, who brings spectators into an arcade illuminated by the artificial lights of the slot machines and video games that characterized the 90s. Jonathan Anderson transports guests to a parallel world surrounded by digital representations and lots of fun. One immediately perceives that the Spring Summer 2023 women 's collection is filtered from her point of view: bold proportions, props trapped in the garments, sparkling dresses, pop colors, and state-of-the-art creations.

In JW Anderson's Spring Summer 2023 collection, one cannot fail to notice the references to the vaporwave aesthetic starting from the computer screen savers of the nineties — jumping dolphins and endless sunsets appear on women's jumpsuits, garments, bags and accessories. Exaggerated details abound, but so do essential shapes: wrinkled t-shirts flaunt reinterpreted washing labels; computer keyboard keys deconstruct tops and long frocks; one-shouldered dresses recall the plastic-bagged goldfish prizes at amusement parks; a convex mirror dress cleverly reflects its surroundings. Closing the show was a black t-shirt that pays homage to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last week.
