6 Leading Artists Revamp Louis Vuitton's Classic Capucines Bag
The 2022 Artycapucines Collection sees 6 contemporary artists lend their unique visions to this timeless shape.
The fourth chapter of Louis Vuitton's limited-edition, artist-designed Artycapucines Collection is further proof of how the iconic bag can inspire unbridled creativity. Six global artists — Daniel Buren, Kennedy Yanko, Park Seo-Beo, Amélie Bertrand, Peter Marino, and Ugo Rondinone — have brought their unique visions to the bag named after Rue Neuve-des-Capucines (where Louis Vuitton opened his first store in 1854) and transformed its blank canvas into a contemporary artwork.
Continuing the stunning creativity of the first three Artycapucines chapters, the nine new bag designs again reveal the collection's ability to blend artistic talent and invention with the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the Maison's masterful artisans. The latest chapter features Daniel Buren's double-sided trompe-l'oeil design with his trademark black and white stripes, for the first time in four color variations; Kennedy Yanko's creation constructed of 3D-printed leather and a metallic patina hand-applied by Italian artisans; one of Park Seo-Bo signature Ecritures paintings remarkably recreated in textured and embellished calfskin; Amélie Bertrand's striking vision innovatively hand-sprayed on the bag in shifting colors and phosphorescence; Peter Marino's all-black, visually powerful studded creation featuring an exclusive clasp; and Ugo Rondinone's delightfully playful and colorful harlequin-style bag covered with over 14,000 handstitched beads. This season, each bag will be presented in its own specially designed gift box.
The celebrated Artycapucines Collection which, as of yet, contains designs from celebrated artists including Henry Taylor, Beatriz Milhazes, Urs Fischer, Zhao Zhao, Vik Muniz, Paola Pivi, and Tschabalala Self, again pays testament to Louis Vuitton's long-running desire to put its innovative spirit and artisanal expertise to the service of artists and their creativity. Each bag shows the quintessence of the label's commitment to savoir-faire and craft while affirming the Capucines as the ultimate expression of feminine elegance.
Each bag in the fourth Artycapucines Collection will be available in a limited edition of 200 (50 per colour variation for Daniel Buren), with a worldwide reveal on October 20, 2022.
