5-piece girl group NewJeans joins the roster as the sixteenth artist to be handled by the South Korean entertainment conglomerate HYBE who found success with international boy groups BTS, SEVENTEEN, TXT, and ENHYPEN. NewJeans is only the third girl group in HYBE, following the debut of LE SSERAFIM last May and the acquisition of third-generation girl group Fromis_9 through PLEDIS Entertainment. The quintet, which includes Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, does not appear to be under any pressure to live up to the long list of household names. After all, the teens exemplify everything new, exciting, and youthful.

1. The band name is a nod to the timelessness of jeans and a wordplay on the phrase &ldquo;New Genes&rdquo;

NewJeans, the most recent addition to the competitive roster of fourth-generation groups, has proven through their music and performances that they are an industry force to be reckoned with.

2. ADOR's NewJeans is the company's first.
ADOR (All Doors One Room) is an independent music label owned by the entertainment powerhouse HYBE. In debuting NewJeans, the record label, which was founded in 2021, deviated from the usual marketing playbook of the Korean pop music scene. Using experimental strategies, ADOR simply released the music video for the title track Attention on July 21st, without any teasers to build up hype, as previous groups had done. What's bolder is that the group debuted without revealing their names, allowing their art to speak for itself.
NewJeans' music is refreshing for a fourth-generation pop group. The four melodic and groovy tracks Attention, Hype Boy, Cookie, and Hurt from their self-titled EP will surely be stuck in your head for weeks.

3. Previous SM brand director Min Heejin is the band&rsquo;s producer.
Prior to their debut, the group was dubbed "Min Heejin's girl group," and fans were ecstatic following her time as Creative Director of SM Entertainment and Chief Brand Officer of Big Hit Entertainment. Min is also credited with the concepts of industry icons SHINee, EXO, f(x), and Red Velvet, all of which are products of SM Entertainment, where she began her career as a graphic designer.
Min is known for her novel and unconventional concepts, which are loved and adored by many, but she has recently come under fire for questionable creative decisions involving the group's minor members, causing concern among their fans.

4. They currently hold the highest number of album sales made by a girl group on their release day.
NewJeans broke records by selling 310,000 copies of their self-titled EP in one week, joining third-generation girl group frontrunners BLACKPINK and TWICE. The group's debut album is the first to sell over 200,000 copies on its first day of release, shattering the previous record of 176,861 album sales set by LE SSERAFIM's 'FEARLESS' on its first day of release.

5. International members Hanni and Danielle are involved in the songwriting process of their namesake album.
Members Hanni and Danielle tried their hand at songwriting for their EP, proving that the NewJeans members' talents extend beyond singing and dancing. Vietnamese-Australian member Hanni, born Phạm Ngọc H&acirc;n, was credited for her lyrical composition of moombahton and electropop fusion title track Hype Boy alongside writers Gigi and Ylva Dimberg.
On the other hand, Korean-Australian member Danielle, also known as Mo Ji-hye, wrote lyrics in the group's first single, Attention. The subdued R&amp;B track debuted at number one on the South Korean Billboard charts last July.
