The appointment marks a new era for the luxury Roman Jeweler.

Greek designer Mary Katrantzou, who established herself as one of the quintessential designers who shaped fashion back in the 2010s, has been appointed as Bulgari&rsquo;s first-ever Creative Director for leather goods and accessories. The role will have Katrantzou be in charge of creating high-quality luxury leather pieces and one-of-a-kind fine jewelry for the storied Roman House.
&nbsp;&ldquo;The rich cultural heritage and dual Greco-Roman roots of Bulgari have played an integral part in my formation as a designer. I&rsquo;ve always been inspired by the design codes and syncretism of Bulgari, its mastery of colors, and the depth of narrative. I&rsquo;m deeply honored to be the first Creative Director of Bulgari Leather Goods and Accessories, leading the creative vision for the new chapter and elevating everyday life into a form of art,&rdquo; Katrantzou said in an official statement released by Bulgari.
In the same breath, Bulgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin couldn&rsquo;t help but express his excitement for this new chapter. &ldquo;Mary&rsquo;s arrival as Leather Goods and Accessories creative director makes us very proud. Mary shares with Bulgari not only the Greek origins, but above all the search for excellence in the choice of materials, the way in which they are transformed with a particular emphasis in craftsmanship and a passionate love for colors. We are certain that what we are starting with this visionary designer is a path full of successes.&rdquo;&nbsp;
Having graduated with a Bachelor&rsquo;s and Master&rsquo;s Degree in Fashion at Central Saint Martins in London, Katrantzou quickly made a name for herself in the global fashion scene because of her eye for creating beautiful, unique, and often times, trompe l'oeil prints in contemporary silhouettes. She was awarded the Swiss Textiles Award for her exemplary knowledge and skill at manipulating fabrics and developing her own prints, and was also given the British Fashion Award for Emerging Talent: womenswear.

Before this appointment, she has had three remarkable collaborations with Bulgari. The first was back in 2019, when Katrantzou showcased her Spring/Summer 2020 couture collection at the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Greece. The collection highlighted Bulgari Heritage High Jewelry which brought together fashion, culture, and heritage all in one show. Then in 2021, the designer was asked to reimagine Bulgari&rsquo;s Serpenti Forever bag as part of the brand&rsquo;s &ldquo;Serpenti through the eyes of&rdquo; series. In 2023, Katrantzou and Bulgari released a second capsule collection, this time featuring the Serpenti Forever Icon bag. That same year, the designer also collaborated for her own bottle design for the Bulgari Omnia perfume and worked with master perfumer Alberto Morillas in the process. Having worked together closely for the past three years has deepened the bond between Bulgari and the contemporary designer, which has proven to be quite a formidable match.
Mary Katranztou&rsquo;s debut collection for Bulgari is expected to hit stores globally this August 2024.
